Supporting Real-World Readiness Through Operational Media Simulation
COLUMBUS, Indiana - Earlier this year, Compound Methods served as a Media Subject Matter Expert supporting L2 Defense, Inc. during a large-scale training exercise at Camp Atterbury.
Our role focused on building and managing a full operational media environment designed to replicate the real-world information conditions, media pressures, and communications challenges participants could face during a catastrophic incident.
Over the course of more than two weeks, our team worked 12+ hour days developing and producing simulated media content across multiple platforms while coordinating dynamic exercise scenarios in real time. The operational environment included realistic media injects, evolving public information demands, and mock press engagements intended to challenge participants under pressure and strengthen decision-making capabilities.
Compound Methods also supported senior military leadership throughout the exercise, including the coordination and execution of a simulated press conference environment involving multiple general officers and Public Affairs teams. These scenarios were designed to mirror the pace, scrutiny, and communication complexity leaders would encounter during an actual crisis response.
Exercises like these reinforce the critical role strategic communication and public information operations play during emergencies. In today’s environment, operational success depends not only on response capabilities, but also on the ability to communicate clearly, accurately, and confidently under intense public and media attention.
We are grateful for the opportunity to support this important mission alongside dedicated professionals committed to preparedness, leadership development, and effective public communication.
